The Apalachicola River defines the winding eastern boundary of this region, creating a labyrinth of waterways such as the Brothers River and Brickyard Cut Off. This riverine environment is home to several landmasses separated by creeks and sloughs, including Forbes Island, Bloody Bluff Island, and Downes Island. Much of the eastern portion lies within the protected borders of the Apalachicola National Forest, where the landscape transitions from dense wetlands to managed woodland.
