Fox Creek and the surrounding high-altitude terrain in Conejos County are defined by a complex network of canyons and water management systems. The Conejos River winds through the landscape, feeding early agricultural infrastructure like the Las Mesitas Ditch and Cañon Ditch, which supported local settlements such as Cañon. Much of the western portion of the map is protected within the Rio Grande National Forest, where the topography is marked by deep cuts like Conoboy Canyon and Hicks Canyon.
