Comanche National Grassland dominates this corner of the High Plains, where the terrain is deeply dissected by a network of drainage canyons. The landscape is defined by the various branches of the Carrizo Creek system, including W Carrizo Cr, E Carrizo Cr, and N Carrizo Cr. These watercourses have carved significant landforms such as Skull Canyon, Bear Canyon, and the primary Furnish Canyon.

Evidence of human land use and natural resource management is found in the scattered CNG labels, indicating compressed natural gas activity, and the presence of the John L Jones Reservoir. The southwestern portion of the sheet features the rising elevation of Black Mesa, a prominent geological landmark. This survey also records the boundary line between Las Animas Co and Baca Co, providing a clear view of the rural road network including Co RD J and Co RD 3.5.
