About this map

Mount Carrizo and the sprawling heights of Mesa De Maya define the high plains of the Colorado-New Mexico borderlands in this late-nineteenth-century survey. The landscape is dominated by the intricate drainage systems of West Carrizo Creek and Two Butte Creek, which reveal the erosive power of water across the arid plateau. Topographers A. C. Barclay and R. A. Farmer documented a region defined by critical water sources, such as Willow Spring and Carrizo Springs, which were essential waypoints in the sparsely settled territory of Las Animas and Baca counties.
