Hotason Vo serves as the primary point of settlement in this arid reach of the Tohono O'odham Nation, situated where the southern desert flats meet the rising slopes of the Gakolik Mountains. The landscape is defined by broad alluvial basins, including Needle Valley and the Quijotoa Valley, which are partitioned by prominent ridges such as the Sikort Chuapo Mountains. This 2014 survey documents the modern infrastructure of the region, notably the path of Bia-34 as it cuts north-northeast through the gap between the Gakolik range and the Hickiwan Valley. The map illustrates a classic Basin and Range topography, where isolated peaks provide dramatic vertical relief against the expansive desert valleys, reflecting a land-use pattern dictated by the presence of water and the ruggedness of the high ground.
