About this map

Georgetown and its surrounding tidal lowlands appear here in a state of post-war transition, where the historic plantation economy of the South Carolina coast meets modern infrastructure. Significant tracts of land are defined by their agrarian heritage, including Friend Field Plantation, Hobcaw Plantation, and Estherville Plantation, often situated near extensive abandoned rice fields that line the Sampit River and Waccamaw River. The maritime character of the region is evident in the numerous navigation lights and markers throughout Winyah Bay, such as Little River Winyah Bay Lt 150.
