Edwards River meanders across the southern half of this landscape, defining the local drainage system as it flows westward through Henry County. The terrain is a network of small tributaries and creeks, including Spring Creek and Mud Creek, which cut through a largely agricultural grid of section lines. This rural character is preserved in the placement of several family and community burial grounds, such as Greenlee Cemetery and Liberty Cemetery, which offer valuable landmarks for genealogical research. The road system is dominated by numeric township roads, though local character persists in uniquely named thoroughfares like Possum Trot Rd. Along the intersection of Co Rd 5 and N 1200th Ave, the Mount Zion Cemetery serves as a central landmark within the T16N R4E township block, illustrating the dispersed but organized settlement pattern of the Illinois prairie.
