Death Valley National Park encompasses the extreme vertical relief of this landscape, where the eastern edge of Death Valley transitions into the high terrain of the Black Mountains. The topography is defined by sharp elevation changes, moving from the floor of the valley along Badwater Road up toward the high peaks of Smith Mtn and the Amargosa Range. This area serves as a primary drainage corridor for the Mojave Desert, with water features like Willow Cr and the isolated Willow Spring marking rare points of hydration in an arid environment.
