Hessel and the surrounding island chains of northern Lake Huron define this coastal landscape on the edge of the Hiawatha National Forest. This survey documents the complex geography of the Les Cheneaux region, where Marquette Island and numerous smaller landmasses like Birch Island and Long Island create a sheltered network of waterways including Marquette Bay and Duck Bay. The area's maritime and local heritage is anchored by points of interest such as Patrick Landing and Edgewood Cem, while the namesake Goose Island and the nearby Goose Island Shoal sit isolated to the south. Internal trails and roads, such as the S Marquette Bay Trl and Boggy Path, reveal the intricate access routes through the wooded terrain and along the shoreline towards Point Fuyards.
