About this map

The High Plains landscape of the Oklahoma Panhandle is defined by a sparse but vital water network and early energy extraction. In the early 1970s, the terrain of Willow Bar was punctuated by numerous Oil Well and Gas Well sites, indicating the industrial footprint on this rural ranching country. Local history is anchored by the Hutsell Cem, a small burial ground situated near the boundary where Cimarron County meets Texas County. The drainage patterns show a clear transition from the flatter northern sections down into the breaks of Sand Creek and Marell Creek in the south. Several small impoundments, including Lafaver Lake and Lake Olamar, served as critical landmarks in an otherwise open expanse, while the Radio Tower provided a vertical reference point for the region.
