Guadalupe Canyon and Baker Canyon define this arid borderland where the United States and Mexico meet. In this remote corner, the Guadalupe Canyon Rd follows the natural contours of the drainage, crossing back and forth over the international line between United States of America and Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Human presence is sparse, marked primarily by the lonely Hog Ranch in the northern portion of the quadrangle. A unique local landmark, the Spring of Contention, sits near the ranch, suggesting the vital and perhaps historically disputed nature of water sources in this dry landscape at the edge of the Peloncillo Mountains.
