About this map

Anchor Bay and the coastal settlement of Gualala anchor this late-twentieth-century study of the Mendocino and Sonoma county line. The landscape is defined by the steep transition from the Pacific coastline to high ridges like Gualala Mtn and Signal Ridge. This era shows a persistent timber economy, with a Lumber Mill situated near the mouth of the Gualala River. Historic maritime access points such as Steens Landing, Collins Landing, and Bourns Landing appear along the shoreline, serving as reminders of the region's shipping history before modern road networks. Education and local industry are marked by the Seaside Sch and Wildwood Ranch, while the southern end of the sheet preserves the natural landscape at Gualala Point County Park. A dense network of gulches, including China Gulch and Robinson Gulch, drains the timbered uplands toward the sea.
