About this map

The international boundary between the Canada United States of America defines the character of this remote Somerset County landscape. Centered on the upper reaches of the Southwest Branch Saint John River, the terrain is defined by high-elevation hydrology and timberlands. To the east, the massif of Hardwood Mtn rises above a network of waterways including Dead Brook and the Little Southwest Branch Saint John River. The western portion of the map, across the border, is dotted with numerous small lakes such as Lac Pouliot and Lac Rémillard. Access into this high country is limited to corridors like Carter Brook Rd, reflecting a landscape largely shaped by natural drainage patterns like Ruisseau Carter and Ruisseau Doucet rather than permanent settlement.
