The Piscataquis River flows through this Penobscot County landscape, defining the southern portion of the area near the settlement of Medford. The river's winding path is joined by numerous tributaries, including Schoodic Stream and Little Schoodic Stream, creating a complex network of waterways that has historically influenced travel and settlement patterns. Local history is anchored at the Schoodic Cemetery, situated on the northern bank of the river west of Medford Rd.

To the north, the terrain transitions into a more secluded wetland and woodland environment centered around Hardy Pond and the small settlement of Hardy. A series of specialized routes, such as Hardy Brook Truck Rd and Thousand Acre Bog Rd, provide access to the interior. Elevation rises toward the southeast at Bunker Hill, overlooking the confluence of Bonnie Brook and Roberts Rocky Brook as they drain toward the main river valley.
