Lake Thibadeau National Wildlife Refuge dominates the northwestern portion of this landscape, protecting a significant wetland system that includes Grassy Lake and Dry Lake. This region of Hill County, just west of the Hill and Blaine County line, is characterized by a high-plains geography where deep glacial or erosional incisions create a network of drainages. These include Redrock Coulee, Coal Coulee, and McLaren Coulee, which carve through the surrounding terrain.
