Salmon River Breaks dominate this vertical landscape where the Nez Perce National Forest and Payette National Forest meet. The terrain is defined by extreme elevation changes between the Clearwater Mountains in the north and the Salmon River Mountains to the south. Human presence is sparse, marked primarily by remote outposts such as Allison Ranch and Crofoot Ranch. These sites are linked by the winding corridor of the river and its many tributaries, including Bargamin Cr and Hida Cr.
