The Maquoketa River winds through the eastern edge of this agricultural landscape at the tri-county junction of Delaware, Linn, and Jones counties. Centered on the settlement of Buck Creek, the terrain is defined by a dense network of watercourses including Plum Creek, Grove Creek, and Silver Creek. The area’s rural heritage is well-preserved through its scattered country burial grounds, such as Buck Creek Cem and Grove Creek Cem.

In the southeast, the Castle Grove Baptist Cem and Immaculate Conception Cem mark the community's spiritual and genealogical centers. On the outskirts of Hopkinton, the Hopkinton Walkway Trl provides a transition between the town and the riverbanks. The grid of country roads, including Co Rd X31 and 310th St, connects these isolated homesteads and small-town centers across the rolling Iowa farmland.
