Massies Mill and Lanes Ford anchor the southwestern corner of this study, where the Tye River winds through a landscape dominated by the high ridges of the George Washington National Forest. The 2016 terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, from the heights of Three Ridges and Horseshoe Mountain down into the narrow agricultural corridors of Ginseng Hollow and Freshwater Cove. Long-standing community landmarks such as Bethlehem Cemetery and Jonesboro Cemetery provide specific points for genealogical research near the settlements of Roseland and Jonesboro.
