The high alpine terrain of the Bitterroot National Forest and Nez Perce National Forest dominates this landscape along the crest of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. The boundary between Montana and Idaho follows the high ridges, dividing Ravalli County from Idaho County. This remote backcountry is defined by significant summits including Hunter Peak and Moe Peak, which tower over several high-altitude water bodies such as Moe Lake, Bigfoot Lake, and Milepost Lake.
