The Stillwater Range dominates the western half of this Churchill County landscape, where the high desert terrain is carved by a dense network of drainages including Shanghai Canyon, Mill Canyon, and Kent Canyon. This area of central Nevada is geological active, marked most notably by the Fault Scarp of 1954 in the northeast. The transition from the steep peaks of Silver Hill down to the alluvial fans of Dixie Valley is defined by ephemeral waterways such as I X L Canyon Wash and Dixie Valley Wash.
