About this map

The coastal interface between Gulf and Franklin Counties is defined by a series of mileage-based settlements along the shoreline, including Thirteen Mile, Eleven Mile, and Nine Mile. During the mid-twentieth century, this region served as a strategic military and maritime corridor, anchored by Coast Guard Sta No 105 and the Odena Fire Tower 9 near the settlement of Odena. A notable infrastructure detail is the Temporary Bridge spanning St Vincent Sound, connecting the mainland to the complex terrain of St Vincent Island. The island itself is a mosaic of sand ridges and dunes, interspersed with bodies of water such as Oyster Pond, Lake No 5, and the Big Bayou. Transport in the northern portion of the quadrangle is dominated by the Apalachicola Northern railroad, which runs parallel to Depot Creek through a landscape of wetlands and forests.
