The Bruneau Wild and Scenic River carves a dramatic path through the high basalt plateau of Owyhee County, meeting the Jarbidge Wild and Scenic River in a landscape defined by vertical relief and arid isolation. Much of the western half of the map is protected as the Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness, a designation reflecting the lack of roads and modern development along the canyon corridors. On the flats above the river breaks, the terrain transitions into the Inside Desert and Diamond A Desert, where the vast public lands are partitioned by the rectangular grid of the Public Land Survey System, specifically sections within t12s r8e and t13s r8e. This 2023 edition documents a region where the topography itself has dictated the patterns of human absence, preserving the original watercourses like the Jarbidge River in their natural state.
