Sanchez Spring and Harte Spring are among several critical water sources scattered across this high-desert landscape in Las Animas County. The terrain is defined by a series of deep drainage networks, most notably Tejana Arroyo and the intersecting Jones Lake Canyon in the southern portion of the quadrangle. These natural features dictated the early paths of rural infrastructure, as seen in the alignment of Co RD 91.1 and Co RD 90.
