About this map

Volcanic landscapes and residential subdivisions define this portion of the Island of Hawai'i. The southern half of the map is dominated by the geological history of the Kilauea region, featuring the extensive Lava Flow of 1963 and Lava Flow of 1965. These flows surround prominent volcanic cones such as Pu'u'o'o, Pu'u Kahaualea, and Pu'u Halulu. A significant portion of this terrain is preserved within the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the adjacent Hawai'i Volcanoes Wilderness.
