Castle Rock Lake dominates the eastern half of this Juneau County landscape, its western shoreline reaching into the townships of Necedah, Clearfield, and Germantown. The reservoir, noted at elevation 882, is fed by the winding Yellow River and the South Branch, which meander through marshy lowlands and forested sections of the Buckhorn State Park and the adjacent Buckhorn State Wildlife Area.
