The settlement of Kinsley sits at the heart of this landscape where the Stanislaus National Forest meets the Sierra National Forest. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes between high ridges and deep river canyons, most notably where the Tuolumne River and the Merced River carve through the Sierra Nevada. The river systems are further complexified by the South Fork Merced River and numerous drainages like Ned Gulch and Halls Gulch.
