Kinusta Mesa dominates this high-altitude landscape within the Apache County portion of the Navajo Nation. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent mesas and deep drainages, including Alcove Mesa and the northern reaches of the Carrizo Mountains. Transportation in the area relies on a network of established routes such as Indian Rte 5040, which threads between the plateaus, and Indian Rte 172 in the southwestern corner. Seasonal watercourses like White Rock Wash, Walker Creek, and Hashidito Cr provide the primary drainage for the complex canyon systems of Bear Trail Canyon and Splashing Water Canyon. This 2018 survey illustrates the relationship between the dramatic geology of Segi Ho Cho Mesa and the essential road corridors that connect these remote landforms.
