Kinusta Mesa and the surrounding high desert of Apache County define this area of the Navajo Nation. The terrain is characterized by a series of prominent, flat-topped landforms including Alcove Mesa, Segi Ho Cho Mesa, and Altar Mesa, which rise sharply above deep drainage systems. The Carrizo Mountains dominate the eastern edge of the quadrangle, where the headwaters of Walker Creek and Alcove Canyon begin their descent.
