The Great Smoky Mountains National Park dominates the southern half of this landscape, rising from the Little River valley toward the high peaks of Clingmans Dome and Mount Le Conte. Rural life is preserved in the naming of local landmarks like Shady Grove Ch and Union Cem, which persist even as industrial centers like the Tva projects and the Louisville & Nashville RR shaped the regional economy.
