The Toiyabe National Forest dominates this landscape within the Spring Mountains, where high peaks like Griffith Peak and Harris Mtn overlook a complex network of canyons and desert springs. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, moving from the heights of Wilson Ridge down through The Narrows into the lower reaches of Red Rock Canyon. This 2018 survey reveals a topography where water is the primary landmark, marking dozens of critical points such as La Madre Spring, Harris Springs, and the interestingly named Bootlegger Spring. A sparse network of forest roads, including Harris Springs Road and Lovell Canyon Rd, provides access to Lovell Summit and the high ridges. To the southeast, the Sandstone Bluffs and Lost Creek Canyon signify the transition toward the open Mojave Desert.
