Lake Annie and the adjacent Lake Annie Mtn form the centerpiece of this high-desert landscape situated along the border of Lake County, Oregon, and Modoc County, California. The terrain is defined by a series of north-flowing seasonal drainages including Twelvemile Cr, Tenmile Cr, and Ninemile Cr, which are punctuated by engineered water management features such as Ninemile Reservoir and Schadler Reservoir.

A significant portion of the western territory is protected within the Modoc National Forest, featuring the high-elevation Indian Meadow and Twelvemile Meadow. To the south, the land drops into the northern reaches of Surprise Valley, a notable geological feature that transitions from the mountainous timberlands of the forest toward the arid alkali flats and sloughs, including the winding Cow Head Slough that feeds into Twin Lakes on the eastern edge of the quadrangle.
