Glacial depressions and water bodies dominate this section of the Minnesota prairie along the border of Clay and Becker counties. The landscape is a complex network of named lakes and wetlands, ranging from the large Upper Cormorant Lake in the southeast to smaller, numbered basins such as Lake Ten, Lake Eleven, and Lake Thirteen. This region shows a long history of rural community life, anchored by several well-preserved burial grounds including Solem Cem, Houglum Cem, and the Old Yankee Cem.
