Lake Scott State Park and the surrounding High Plains terrain dominate this landscape in western Kansas. The area is defined by a series of dramatic canyon systems including Garvin Canyon, Timber Canyon, and Horsehief Canyon which cut through the level tableland. Water is a central feature of this semi-arid region, anchored by the presence of Lake Scott and perennial water sources such as Big Spring and Barrel Spring.
