The high plains of Colfax County meet the western edge of Union County in this remote corner of northeastern New Mexico. Water sources are the defining features of this arid landscape, marked by named springs such as Dipping Vat Spring, Ojo de Llano, and Barela Springs. The drainage of Lawrence Arroyo cuts through the center of the sheet, flanked by the Chico Hills and deep cuts like Torcido Canyon and Laird Canyon.
