Dave Wright Hill rises above a complex system of drainage and canyon land in this portion of Las Animas County, captured in the early 21st century. The landscape is defined by its deep, eroded channels, including the prominently named Lost Canyon and Eightmile Canyon which dominate the western and central terrain. This area demonstrates a characteristic high-desert topography where water management is critical, evidenced by the presence of the Lawson Reservoir and the network of local routes like Co RD 177.9 and Co RD 76.2 that provide access through the canyons.
