About this map

Big Fork River meanders through this portion of Koochiching County, showing a landscape in the midst of significant hydrological engineering. The numerous segments of Judicial Ditch and other drainage channels across the Henry and Boy survey blocks reflect an era of intensive efforts to reclaim marshy terrain for settlement and agriculture. While much of the land is defined by these rectangular grids, small community hubs like Dentaybow, McDonald, and Pine Grove anchor the local geography. In the northwest, the M & I Ry provides a critical rail connection, while the 9th Correction Line runs east-west near Bergman. The map preserves the early 20th-century footprint of isolated rural outposts such as Rockton and Cedardale, linked by basic trails and the natural corridors of Reily Brook and the Little Fork River.
