About this map

Claypits and industrial excavations define the landscape of the Massey Hill and Gordon area in the early 1970s. This survey records a transition from traditional rural settlements to a landscape dominated by kaolin mining and clay extraction, evident in the numerous claypits and large tailings ponds concentrated along the Old Grade Railroad. Despite this industrial expansion, many traditional community landmarks remain visible, including a high density of country churches and family burial grounds such as Liberty Hill Ch, Asbury Ch, and the Branan-Vinson Cem.
