Lake Mead dominates this desert landscape where the waters of the Virgin Basin meet the stark eastern slopes of the Black Mountains. The shoreline is characterized by a series of rugged indentations and landmarks named for local figures and geologic features, such as Kitty Coleman Rock and Jim Jones Reef. Navigation and topographical interest center on the central peninsula of Middle Point and the adjacent Middle Point Islands, which sit across from Crescent Cove.
