The Jordan River carves a central path through this mid-century valley landscape, separating the established centers of Midvale and Sandy City from the agricultural and industrial western expansion. In the 1960s, this region was a complex network of irrigation and rail, where the Utah Lake Distributing Canal and Galena Canal supported local farming while the Denver and Rio Grande Western and Utah Railway moved heavy freight.

Evidence of local industry and institutional development is prominent, ranging from the Sugar Refinery near West Jordan to the extensive grounds of the Utah State Prison in the south. For genealogists, the map preserves the locations of the Wite Fort Cem, South Jordan Cemetery, and Crescent Cem. This survey captures the valley just before suburban growth began to merge the distinct settlements of Riverton, South Jordan, and Lampton into a continuous corridor.
