Petrified Forest National Park extends into the northwestern corner of this territory, where the arid high desert of Apache County is defined by a complex network of seasonal drainages and livestock water infrastructure. The landscape is characterized by prominent landforms such as Puerco Ridge and Potter Mesa, which overlook the winding course of Milky Wash and Potter Place Draw. This 2018 survey reveals a terrain meticulously managed for ranching, evidenced by a high density of named water features. These include Middle Wallace Tank, Clear Lake Tank, and the appropriately named Badlands Tank. The survey also captures Beaver Dam Wash in the southeast and follows the path of Co RD 5005 as it navigates the township and range boundaries. The prevalence of these "tanks" highlights the critical importance of water catchment and distribution in this specific portion of the Arizona desert.
