Moffat sits at the southern edge of this San Luis Valley landscape, where the high desert floor meets a network of intermittent watercourses. The drainage of San Luis Cr dominates the eastern half of the map, carving a winding path through the level terrain. To the south and west, the hydrology becomes more complex as Saguache Cr and its northern branch, N Br Saguache Cr, cross the valley floor.

A distinct residential pocket north of the main settlement reveals a series of named lanes and circles, including Betty Lee Dr, Lee Nora Dr, and Hazard Cir. These developments contrast with the broad, open sections defined by the Public Land Survey System, such as t044n r009e, which characterize most of the surrounding acreage. The north-south corridor of Co-17 provides the primary transit link through this quiet agricultural and ranching region, while Big Hollow Gulch marks a notable depression in the northern reaches.
