Moffat sits at the southern edge of this San Luis Valley landscape, serving as a focal point for local commerce and transportation just before the turn of the decade. The town’s grid is defined by Broadway and Reynolds Ave, with the Po located centrally to support the surrounding ranching and residential community. The terrain is a complex network of wetlands and intermittent waterways, most notably the winding paths of Saguache Cr and its N Br Saguache Cr in the southwest, and San Luis Cr to the east.

Evidence of modern residential planning appears to the north near the Big Hollow Gulch, where several named developments such as Ford Cir and Hazard Cir introduce a suburban street pattern into the high-desert valley. A rigid system of county roads, including Kit Carson Rd and Co RD Aa, provides the essential infrastructure for accessing the expansive agricultural sections and riparian zones that dominate the quadrangle.
