1996 Map of Moivayi

About this map

The Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation occupies much of this landscape, where the southern reaches of the Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range meet the high desert. The topography is dominated by the Sand Tank Mountains to the north and the Sauceda Mountains to the west, separated by expansive drainages like Sauceda Wash. Small settlements such as Moivayi and Kaka are situated along the margins of the Hickiwan Valley and Kaka Valley, providing a look at indigenous community locations and land use in the late 20th century. A small Cem near Moivayi serves as a localized landmark for genealogists. The map also records the boundary line between Maricopa Co and Pima Co, following the natural contours of the desert floor and mountain passes.
