Montezuma and its nearby Montezuma Seminary Cem anchor the southeastern corner of this landscape, where the foothills meet the plains of San Miguel County. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages including Sandoval Canyon, Cañon Alto, and Trout Springs Canyon, all feeding toward the Gallinas Cr corridor. Small settlements like Trout Springs, Gallinas, and Las Dispensas follow the canyon floors and forest roads, illustrating the historical pattern of mountain habitation in northern New Mexico. The eastern edge of the map features the sharp geological rise of The Creston, which separates the high country from the lower basins. Water management is evident through the presence of Peterson Reservoir and Bradner Reservoir, essential infrastructure for the communities positioned along the base of the mountains near El Llano and Los Vigiles.
