Currituck Beach and the coastal settlements of Whale Head Hill and Three Dunes define the narrow, developed strip of the Outer Banks on this coastal study. The landscape is a complex network of barrier island marshes and small landmasses, including the Mossey Islands, North Burris Island, and South Burris Island. These islands are separated by a maze of tidal waterways such as Sanders Creek, Lone Oak Channel, and Jarvis Channel.
