American Border Peak and Mt Larrabee dominate the high-altitude landscape of the Mount Baker National Forest along the international boundary. This 2014 survey captures the high-country recreation and conservation infrastructure of Whatcom County, centered on the North Fork Nooksack River corridor. The geography is defined by a series of high passes and peaks, including Tomyhoi Peak and Winchester Mountain, which are linked by the Pacific NW National Scenic Trail. Evidence of forest management and fire observation is visible through the Winchester Mountain Lookout and Goat Mountain Lookout. Near the valley floor, the Mount Baker Highway provides access to the small settlement of Shuksan, where the Shuksan Campground and Silver Fir Campground serve as base points for exploring the surrounding North Fork Nooksack Research Natural Area.
