Pleasant River Lake and its surrounding wetlands define the hydrology of this interior Washington County landscape. The area is marked by significant elevation changes, from the heights of Pleasant Mtn and Northeast Bluff to the expansive drainage basins of Mopang Stream and Little Mopang Stream. A complex network of ponds and flowages, including Bog-Brook Flowage, Merrit Pond, and Flynn Pond, illustrates the low-lying glacial topography that characterizes much of the eastern Maine wilderness.
