Northland and the smaller settlement of Reade occupy this stretch of the Upper Peninsula, situated along the county line between Dickinson and Marquette counties. The landscape is defined by the convergence of several waterways, most notably the North Branch Ford River and the main Ford River, which wind through the area alongside smaller tributaries like Tom Deer Creek and Elie Creek. Local history and genealogy are centered around the Riverview Cemetery located just west of the Northland townsite. The road network, including Co Rd 426 and Co Rd SO, connects these rural outposts across a terrain of dense wetlands and forest. The Little West Branch Escanaba River cuts across the northeastern corner, highlighting the complex drainage patterns that influenced the development of these timber and transit-reliant communities.
