The Pacific Ocean dominates this coastal landscape, meeting the California shoreline at the edge of San Luis Obispo County. The urban limits of Grover Beach and the southern edge of Pismo Beach are concentrated in the northeast corner, where a grid of local roads including Grand Ave and Strand Way transitions into the shoreline dunes. This 2021 survey highlights the delicate boundary between coastal development and the natural environment of the Cienega Valley.
