Death Valley National Park encompasses much of this arid landscape, where the northern Mojave Desert meets the southern reaches of Death Valley. The topography is dominated by the Ibex Hills and the Amargosa Range, with Old Ibex Pass serving as a primary notch through the high ground. Drainage patterns are defined by the ephemeral Amargosa River and several desert washes including Buckwheat Wash and Ibex Wash, which trace the path of seasonal water through the basin.
